My research activities concerned two main objectives that consist to identify genes linked to phenotypes, and to study influence of environmental conditions on community structures. I am using high-throughput technologies (genomic, transcriptomic, metabarcoding), and the associated tools of bioinformatic, statistics, and multivariate approaches. Using comparative genomic and transcriptomic, I proposed candidate genes associated to (i) the host range of marine viruses (Prasinovirus), and (ii) the establishment of symbiosis between legume plants and rhizobia. I also described the diversity and distribution of Prasinovirus using metabarcoding, and highlighted environmental variables that influenced the structure of these communities.
I am now working on the specificity and the stability of microbial communities associated to the flat oyster Crassostrea gigas, in the context of the hologenome theory. This theory proposes that host and their microbiota (called the holobiont) represent the real entity under natural selection. If this theory is true for oysters, individuals that better resist to events of summer mortalities might have a high stability of their microbiota. I will test this hypothesis during my post-doctoral fellowship, and try to identify the molecular basis of oyster-microbiota interaction.
