DOMAINE D’EXPERTISE-RECHERCHE :
Les travaux de recherche entrepris au sein de mes laboratoires d’accueil successifs portent sur la caractérisation des bases moléculaires de grandes fonctions physiologiques chez les invertébrés marins et en particulier chez deux espèces de bivalves marins. Leur objectif commun était le développement de projets fondamentaux et finalisés par des approches de génomique fonctionnelle pour formuler des réponses aux problématiques actuelles relatives à la santé des invertébrés marins et l’optimisation des productions aquacoles. D’une part, ces travaux ont porté sur les bases moléculaires des processus de biominéralisation chez l’huître perlière Pinctada margaritifera et l’application de ces connaissances à l’amélioration de la qualité des perles de Polynésie française. D’autre part, ces travaux ont porté et portent encore actuellement, sur les bases moléculaires de la réponse immunitaire chez l’huître creuse Crassostrea gigas dans le but finalisé d’approfondir nos connaissances sur la compréhension des phénomènes de mortalités massives d’huîtres menaçant actuellement la production ostréicole française.
Chez les invertébrés marins, qui sont des organismes en contact permanent avec une riche microflore interne et environnementale, le défi est aujourd’hui de comprendre l’importance de cette microflore dans l’homéostasie ou le développement des pathogenèses chez ces méta-organismes (holobionte) et  les mécanismes immunitaires participant au maintien de cette homéostasie. Je m’intéresse ainsi aujourd’hui aux interactions moléculaires entre le système immunitaire de l’huître creuse et sa microflore, mises en place pour défendre l’intégrité des organismes ou pour favoriser l’adaptation et la création d’interactions bénéfiques au sein de ces écosystèmes complexes. En particulier, des projets sont développés pour (i) comprendre les bases moléculaires de la spécificité des réponses et de la reconnaissance des microorganismes, notamment les bases de la réponse antivirale et (ii) étudier le dialogue entre la microflore et le système immunitaire à travers les phénomènes de « shaping » du système immunitaire au cours du développement ou de « priming » immunitaire chez les juvéniles.
